2017 ACAL Conerence call for papers

Follow the Macassans - go to Darwin

The stylised boat image is inspired by artwork of the Traditional Owners of the Bunitdj clan group in Kakadu National Park and is reproduced with permission.

The image touches on the history of early interaction between the local Indigenous people and 'trepangers' from islands to the North. Wikipedia

Sea cucumber or bĂȘche-de-mer figures prominently in these early interactions and the Wikipedia article describes lingering impacts of language and other aspects of culture.

Time for you to explore further - both geographically (come North!) and through some of the conference sessions.
